Nothing new here, just putting things in context.

Stage 1: unconscious incompetence

You aren't aware anything you are doing may possibly be leading to future problems, without anything being pointed out you will be blissfully unaware until you're injured

Stage 2: conscious incompetence

It now dawns on you that how you have always approached manual handling could be doing you harm (the training)

Stage 3: conscious competence

You have to work at it - you have to be taught how to do something right and then when alone - stop - think - and continually strive to change those manual handling habits (you will not be left without back up)

Stage 4: unconscious competence

It might have slowed you down to start with, but you now do the same manaul handling tasks just as quick as before but without having to think and putting yourself under less risk.
